Keliy’s ongoing series [hypen] Americans is composed of thousands of traditional tintype portraits of diverse Americans. Last year, Waltz Books published a stunning monograph of Keliy’s photographs entitled On a Wet Bough (titled after a haiku by Ezra Pound).
If you’re attending AIPAD don’t miss this opportunity to meet Keliy and have a copy of her book On a Wet Bough signed. If you will not be attending you can purchase her book on Waltz Book’s website.

A large part of my practice as a photographer includes the involvement of my subjects in the creation of the images that represent them. Looking out at the viewer as if looking at themselves in a mirror, the individuals assert their selfhood and resist any imposed or external categorizing system. Once the image joins my installations, each individual becomes part of the larger collection, but is not lost, insisting with his or her intense gaze that we look back. -excerpt from Keliy Anderson-Staley’s [hypen] Americans statement
